Defeat on the road for The Sandgrounders going down 2-1 at Buxton.

Southport started brightly and had two excellent chances to take the lead after a goalmouth scramble very nearly fell the way of Tom Moore to finish but frantic defending from the Buxton rearguard saw them get the ball clear.

Some nice passing and movement from the visitors but as has been so often the case this season no end product.

It was the home side who took the lead in the 31st minute when our defence allowed Josh Popoola to waltz through and put it on a plate for Luke Brennan to tap home from close range.

With the second half only 6 minutes old the home side were awarded a penalty after a foul in the area, Chris Renshaw pulled off a great save but Brennan was on hand to finish the rebound to make it 2-0.

Dior Angus pulled one back (although the video does seem to indicate it was an own goal) on 76 minutes after slackness in the home defence saw him get on the end of a long ball from Matty Thomson Thomson had come on to replace Aaron Pickles who appeared to pull up with a hamstring injury. Southport piled on the pressure in the closing stages but never really troubled the home keeper and the home side saw the game out comfortably.

With just one win in the last 13 games we will be looking to improve that record on Tuesday when we visit Alfreton Town, kick off at 7.45pm.
