Lifeguard cover removed from Southport beach.

The RNLI Lifeguard cover has been removed from Southport beach today. A sign on the door of the lookout post tells people that there are no Lifeguards on duty and that Ainsdale is the nearest beach with Lifeguards .

People are asked to call the Coastguard if they see someone in trouble in the water.

Southport Rescue which is independent from the RNLI will still continue to provide 24hr  cover for the coast.

The RNLI have been approached for a comment.
