Man who was wielding an axe in Walton arrested in Southport yesterday.

After the incident on Scarisbrick New Road yesterday Merseyside Police have released the following information.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "At around 1.55pm, armed police were called to Stuart Road in Walton to reports of a man in possession of an axe. A man was reportedly assaulted but no injured party has come forward. Inquiries continue.

"Armed officers arrested a 31-year-old man in Southport. He was taken to a police station for questioning and an axe was forensically recovered. This is believed to have been a targeted attack with the men known to each other and there was no wider threat to the public.
