Lifeboat Road boardwalk still closed at Formby National Trust near Southport

The team are making progress with the boardwalk repairs but there’s still a lot of work to do. It’s likely to remain closed for several more weeks. We’re sorry for any impact these repairs may have on your visit. The team are working hard to fix it.

With the help of fantastic volunteers, the rangers have removed tonnes of slumped sand from the platform. They can now access the planks and are inspecting and removing those that have rotted away.

Fresh sand, blown back on to the boardwalk, has to be removed each day before work can continue.

Next steps include confirming the extent of the repairs and amount of timber needed, ordering supplies and then work can start on replacing planks and the retaining fence.

Thank you for your support and understanding. We must work slowly and carefully to protect wildlife.

Alternative accessible routes to the Sefton Coast can be found at both Ainsdale and Southport
