Southport Crematorium’s grounds will be partly closed to the public this weekend

Southport Crematorium’s grounds will be partly closed to the public this weekend (Saturday 7th & Sunday 8th August) while essential tree maintenance works are carried out.

Health and safety works have been identified on a small number of trees in the surrounding woodland area of Southport Crematorium and intervention is required to prevent any future risks to both visitors and staff.

While no funerals take place at the Crematorium on weekends the Garden of Remembrance will be closed temporarily to visitors between 8am and 4pm on Saturday and Sunday. It will reopen to the public both days from 4pm to 7pm.

Normal hours will resume on Monday 9th August.

A spokesperson for Sefton Council said: "All efforts have been made to ensure these works can be carried out as quickly and as sensitively as possible within Southport Crematorium’s grounds.

"In order to keep visitors and staff safe while our Green Sefton team attend to the trees in question, we must temporarily close off the crematorium grounds for the duration of the works.

"These temporary closures will also ensure that visits to our Gardens of Rest wont be disturbed or disrupted by unexpected noise, which can add additional stress and upset during what can be a sensitive and solemn occasion.

"We completely respect that these dates may have special meaning to family and friends of loved ones and they will wish to visit the gardens which is why we will work hard to ensure we can reopen from 4pm until 7pm both days.

"We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause."
