Strong winds and a high tide batter Southport seafront-Video

People say that the sea never comes in in Southport. Well today was one of those rare occasions when it did. Strong winds and a predicted high tide saw huge waves(for Southport) crashing onto the sea defences.

There was lots of grass and plastic floating in the sea along with part of a tree that had been washed up.

Today:

Windy, especially across northern and eastern Scotland where gales or severe gales and high gusts expected. Many areas will be dry with sunny spells, but some showers are likely in the north and west and the Midlands. Colder than yesterday.

Tonight:

Daytime showers fading this evening leaving many areas dry and chilly with clear spells overnight. Turning cloudier with rain at times in the west later. Becoming less windy.

Monday:

Bright at first in the south and east, then turning cloudier later but remaining mainly dry. Cloudier and windier in the north and west with rain at times, especially later.

Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday:

Cloud and rain moving southeast through Tuesday with blustery showers following in the north. Cloud and outbreaks of rain in the south likely returning north midweek. Mild in the south.
