Sefton Council Asks For Your Opinion On Southport’s Promenade Redevelopment

Sefton Council has launched a new public consultation to seek the views of residents, businesses and visitors on future improvements to Southport’s Promenade.
In 2020, plans were revealed which would be designed to support Southport’s return to the grandeur of Victorian England, when it was the country’s second most popular tourist destination.
The project, dubbed “Les Transformations de Southport”, aims to improve connectivity across the whole town centre, including improved pedestrian facilities, better links to the railway station and the creation of new public spaces for hosting events.
Now a consultation has been launched for Phase Two of the scheme, seeking out views about proposed changes to the Promenade and connections to the new Marine Lake Events Centre (MLEC).
The Promenade proposal will make it easier for people to walk, cycle, or take the train when making a journey to the MLEC.
Business owners, schools, visitors, and the transport and tourism sectors are encouraged to contribute their views alongside residents from the wider area around Southport.
People can visitthe Council websitewhere further information on the scheme is available, including details of highway works and funding streams.
Cllr Paulette Lappin, Sefton Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Economy and Skills, added:“Part two of this exciting scheme will aim to make it easy for people to get the new MLEC, with safer routes and public space. We want residents and visitors to have better ways to travel between the town centre and seafront, and particularly focus on improving connections for those opting to cycle or walk.”
The Council is hosting two drop-in sessions at The Atkinson, Southport to give people the opportunity to speak to Council Officers in-person about the scheme. Details of these sessions are as follows.
