Southport 2 Lancaster City 1 in Lancs FA Trophy

Southport progressed to the final of the Lancashire Challenge Trophy after a 2-1 win against Lancaster City at Lancashire FA HQ in Leyland.

They made heavy weather of it going behind after 14 minutes and it took two set piece goals from Adam Anson, who scrambled the ball home in the 50th minute and Jack Doyle who scored direct from a corner in the 59th minutes, to book our place in the Final.

Charlie Oliver missed from the spot on 28 minutes firing well wide of the goal.

Lancaster of the NPL put up a great show and will consider themselves unfortunate not to at least get the draw in a scrappy game and take the tie to penalties.

We will face the winners of the Atherton Collieries v West Didsbury and Chorlton semi final which takes place on March 16th also at Leyland.

According to the fixture list on the Lancashire FA website the game will be taking place at Leyland on April 27th but we await confirmation on date and venue.

It will be the club’s 11th appearance in the final as a NL side. We have won 8 and lost 2 and go into it as the current holders with no games played in 19/20 and 20/21.
