Southport Conservatives Plan for Future Amid Disappointing Election Results
After local elections last week, Southport Conservatives are regrouping and already planning for next year’s elections.
Spokesperson for Southport Conservatives, Mike Prendergast said, “There’s no getting away from the fact that the recent local election results were hugely disappointing for Conservatives in the Sefton wards of Southport and it’s incumbent on us to regroup and rebuild for the future.”
“In the Northern Parishes though, we had successes with Councillors Thomas de Freitas and Norma Goodier being elected onto West Lancashire Borough Council for North Meols & Hesketh Bank and Tarleton Village. Congratulations to them both.”
“I want to thank all of those people who voted in the recent elections; your voice matters and whilst results didn’t go our way in parts of the constituency, it was heartening to see that turnout was significantly higher than previous local elections.”
“I suspect that one of the reasons for the high turnout is the deep sense of frustration that many feel with politics at the moment. Through the thousands of conversations we had with people on the doorstep and seeing the results, it’s clear that many feel that politics isn’t delivering for them and their family.”
“For our part, we will be rebuilding and planning for the future. I am a firm believer that there is a need for a sensible pragmatic centre right party that believes in lower taxes, aspiration, cutting spending and delivering for those who work hard and want a better life for themselves and their family.”
“At a local level, Southport and Sefton faces complex structural issues that have to be addressed with pragmatism. Difficult decisions will need to be made on Sefton Council about future priorities and how to deliver sound financial management for local taxpayers.”
“Over the coming weeks and months we will be active in our communities, supporting local residents and businesses and making sure those elected are held accountable.”
