Southport Man Charged for Breaching Criminal Behaviour Order and Theft

A man who was issued with a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) in March 2026 has been charged after several items were stolen from a store in Southport.

Between Wednesday 15 April - Tuesday 5 May it was reported that a man entered Tesco Express on Chapel Street breaching a CBO condition not to enter.

The man took several items and left the store without making any attempts to pay for them.

John Durnin, aged 42, of London Street in Southport has been charged with five counts of breaching a criminal behaviour order and three counts of theft from a shop.

He has been remanded into custody and will appear at Liverpool Crown Court on Thursday 4 June.

Sefton Area Commander: Karl Baldwin said: "Retail Crime and breaching a Criminal Behaviour Order are serious crimes. They have a huge impact on businesses and feelings of safety within our neighbourhoods.

“Through the work of the Merseyside Anti-Social Behaviour Partnership, Neighbourhood Policing Teams and the Preventative Orders Team we are securing more of these orders against those that commit anti-social behaviour and crime.

“Since the start of April we have secured 102 separate charges and positive outcomes against those that target businesses in Sefton.

"We remain committed to supporting local communities, and retailers, by taking firm action against offenders and preventing these crimes in the first place”
