Southport residents scammed out of thousands of pounds this week

Sadly, fraudsters seem to have been successful in scamming multiple people out of their hard earned savings this week, using a well known scam.

We are dealing with reports of victims receiving phone calls from a DC MATTHEW PHILIPS,  who told a victim that someone had cloned their card, and that her bank had been giving counterfeit money. This FAKE Detective has then sent the victims to go and get euros from a foreign exchange, which they have done and then waited for a courier to call round to 'collect' the money.

Some large amounts have been lost in this way.

THE POLICE WOULD NEVER CALL ANYONE AND INSTRUCT THEM TO DO ANYTHING LIKE THIS - THIS IS A SCAM.

See the detail from the 'Think Jessica - Don't Fall For A Scam' booklet.

Copies of the 'Don't Fall For Scam' booklet are available from the enquiry Office at Southport Police Station and several other Council buildings and Community Groups around Southport.

We are in the process of visiting all the victims in person.

Please share this information with elderly or vulnerable friends and relatives and help them avoid becoming a victim of this type of fraud.
