Two Arrested and Drugs Seized in Southport Raid
Two people were arrested and a significant quantity of cash, cocaine and cannabis seized in Southport thanks to the quick-thinking actions of neighbourhood officers.
At around 3.45pm yesterday (Thursday 21 May), officers on patrol in the town centre saw a woman leave an address on Talbot Street who they believed was in possession of drugs.
She was stopped and searched, with officers finding a snapbag containing crack cocaine.
Around five minutes later, a man exited the same building and he was also stopped and following a search found to be in possession of drugs.
A subsequent search of an address led officers to the discovery of more crack cocaine, cannabis, cash, scales and snapbags, some of which had been hidden in a boiler cupboard.
A 59-year-old man from Southport was arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of crack cocaine and cannabis.
A 40-year-old woman of no fixed abode was arrested on suspicion of:
possession of a controlled Class A drug (crack cocaine)
possession of a controlled Class B drug (cannabis)
possession with intent to supply a controlled Class B and A drug (cannabis and crack cocaine)
Both suspects remain in police custody.
Chief Superintendent and Area Commander for Sefton Karl Baldwin said: “This was fantastic work by our officers who were on patrol in Southport and pro-actively investigated a suspected drugs transaction.
“Due to their quick-thinking actions, two suspects are now in custody and a significant quantity of Class A and B drugs have been seized.
“Drug dealing is a blight on our community, causes misery to families and often involves the exploitation of children. We are relentless in pursuing those involved in drug dealing and serious and organised criminality.
“Our work to bring these people to justice will continue on a daily basis and I would ask anyone who has information about this kind of activity to come forward so action can be taken.”
