World No 1 Scottie Scheffler has been practising at Royal Birkdale ahead of The Open, which begins on Thursday 16 July.

Scheffler had extra time to prepare after missing the cut at the Genesis Scottish Open at The Renaissance Club in North Berwick. It was his first missed cut since August 2022 and ended a run of 78 consecutive made cuts.

The American is the defending Open champion after winning at Royal Portrush in 2025. He is aiming to become the first player since Padraig Harrington in 2008 to win the championship in consecutive years.

Royal Birkdale is hosting The Open for the 11th time. Championship play runs from Thursday 16 July to Sunday 19 July, with practice and other events taking place at the Southport links beforehand.
