01 TransportPhase two of Southport Eastern Access scheme starts at Kew Roundabout
Work will bring new signalised crossings, improved retail-park access and the opening of Foul Lane to traffic. Initial preloading is taking place along Meols Park and Foul Lane, with the crossings and remaining improvements expected to take around nine months after the ground has settled.

02 Emergency ServicesSouthport Lifeboat responds to five incidents on Sefton coast
Crews attended five incidents between August 3 and 16, including mud rescues, searches for missing people and a medical evacuation. Responses involved Southport’s Quads, its drone team and partner agencies. Casualties were located safely, while an unconscious man was taken to Southport Hospital for treatment.

03 BusinessUnited Utilities submits £1.4bn North West water investment plan
The proposals include funding for water supplies to the HyNet clean-energy cluster, infrastructure supporting proposed data centres, wastewater capacity at 34 sites and greater resilience for existing assets. United Utilities says the package could support around 4,000 supply-chain jobs, with Ofwat’s final decision due on December 15.

The twin-engined aircraft is scheduled to join flying displays at Southport seafront on August 29 and 30, alongside the Red Arrows, Battle of Britain Memorial Flight and other listed teams. The event announcement includes the aircraft, though visitors are advised to check the confirmed programme before travelling.

Research shows Liverpool City Region’s visitor economy reached £6.834 billion in 2025, with visitor numbers up 7.8% and spending up 9.3%. Tourism supported 57,591 jobs. Day visits drove much of the increase, while partners said the next opportunity is encouraging more visitors to stay overnight.

08 What's OnSony to sponsor wildlife photography activities at North West festival
The October festival at WWT Martin Mere will feature Sony Alpha Wildlife Photo Walks led by ambassador Terry Donnelly, equipment demonstrations and expert advice. Visitors can photograph migrating pink-footed geese, whooper swans and other wetland birds, alongside ringing demonstrations, wild bird feeds and conservation talks.
